Ascot - Racecourse
Ascot is horse town. It really is. I thought there was only the racecourse here but driving around the side streets I see horse training yards, veterinary clinics, equine providores and other facilities for owners, jockeys and trainers. On reflection, not surprising. This is a view of Ascot Racecourse grandstand looking across the track. Not a good picture - I'll take a better one later. Photo - January 2011

There are a few entrances to Ascot Racecourse, this one being the Matheson Gate. It is located on Matheson Road. Photo - January 2011 |

Ascot - Racecourse
Probably the main entrance to Ascot Racecourse. This is the Grandstand entrance, perhaps not surprisingly, on Grandstand Road. Photo - January 2011 |

Ascot - Turf Club
On the other side of Grandstand Road, across from the racecourse entrance, is this rather low-profile looking building which is actually headquarters to the Western Australian Turf Club. Photo - January 2011 |

Ascot - Old Brickworks
These chimney stacks are right next to the W.A. Turf Club building. Decades ago there was a brick works here and these stacks have been preserved. Photo - January 2011 |

Ascot - Old Brickworks
Not only have the chimney stacks been preserved, but so have a lot of the old kilns. Here is one, chimneys in the background, reflecting on life in another era. Photo looks quite good. Photo - January 2011 |

Ascot - Ascot Inn
Down at the end of Epsom Avenue used to be the rather agreeable Ascot Inn. Today is totally fenced off and seems to be undergoing major works. Hope it re-opens soon. Photo - January 2011 |

Ascot - House
Driving around the streets of Ascot this appealing house caught my eye. Housing here is a real mix up up-market dwellings to those which a decades old and perhaps a tad run down. Photo - January 2011. |

Ascot - Swan River
Ascot is bounded on one side by the Swan River. This jetty is on the river (obviously), just down from the Ascot Inn. Perhaps (when the Inn is open) for people to alight here for a few ales? Photo - January 2011 |

Another view of the Swan River at Ascot. Here was are in the Gould Reserve adjacent to the eastern end of the racetrack. Photo - January 2011 |

Ascot - Swan River
A Captain Cook river boat cruises by on its way to Perth (past the Gould Reserve). These rather flat wide boats with small water displacement are ideal for wine cruises in the upper navigable waters of the Swan River. Photo - January 2011 |
