Bakers Hill

A small town on the Great Eastern Highway, east of The Lakes and west of Clackline

Bakers Hill - Auction Mart

Here is a series of photos we took on a visit to Bakers Hill. This is the Bakers Hill Auction Mart on the Highway. An old converted garage. Alas, another business for sale. Apparently Bakers Hill was known as Mount Barker until 1902 when it changed its named to avoid confusion with its namesake in the south. Who was Baker? February 2011

Bakers Hill - Cafe

Again on the main street, here is the B.K.H. Cafe. You can see a bit of the tavern next door. February 2011

Bakers Hill - Tavern

And speaking of the tavern - here it is. Rather a new building - it looks quite good in this photo. I wonder if XXXX brewery owns this? Remember when most pubs were Swan? February 2011

Bakers Hill - Old House

Here is a deserted house on the main street, just next to the Auction Mart. It still looks quite sturdy - perhaps it will be done up one day? February 2011

Bakers Hill - Catholic Church

The local Catholic Church is on the south side of the highway. This is the Holy Family Church. The priest travels down from Northam every second Sunday. February 2011

Bakers Hill - Small Church

Look at this quaint, tiny church - it takes a pleasing photograph. The verandah is as big as the main building. It's on the north side of the highway not far from the Pie Shop. I think this is Saint Nicholson Anglican Church although it doesn't appear to say that anywhere on the building. February 2011

Bakers Hill - Pie Shop

Another converted garage. This is The Famous Bakers Hill Pie Shop! Looks appealing. There was a fellow out the front (can you see him in the yellow shirt?) very ably playing a melodious mini-harp! February 2011

Bakers Hill - Recreation Centre

Off to the north side of town, this is the Bakers Hill Recreation Centre. It's situated near sports facilities such as the local oval. February 2011

Bakers Hill - Memorial

Well kept, designed and constructed memorial park for soldiers who fell in conflicts over the decades. February 2011

Bakers Hill - General Store

Down at the western end of town is the General Store and Post Office. It didn't look very open today. February 2011

Bakers Hill - Pipes & Pump

I like these pumps and I've taken a few similar photos in nearby towns. This is a section of the Mundaring - Kalgoorlie pipeline whereby Bakers Hill's allotment is squeezed out of the main flow! February 2011

Bakers Hill - Highway

Photo looking east along Great Eastern Highway through the townsite. You can see the Pie Shop on the left and the Catholic Church across the road. February 2011
