Bindoon

A small community at the heart of the Shire of Chittering, located on the Great Northern Highway, north of Midland and some 84 kms from Perth

North to New Norcia

West to Gingin

Bindoon - Anglican Church

This is the Holy Trinity Anglican Church of Bindoon, situated a few kilometers south of the townsite. In was built in 1886 by the people of the parish. The welcoming parishioners today are very proud of the 125th anniversary of the church. August 2011

Bindoon - Museum Sign

Seen next to the highway a few kilometres south of Bindoon is this canary-yellow Austin A30 perched upon a pole and advertising the local motor museum. August 2011

Bindoon - Roads Board Building

Another Roads Board building! This one is situated about 2 kilometres south of town in the arts/museum complex. This building was constructed circa 1929 and was classified by the National Trust in 2000. August 2011

Bindoon - Roads Board Building

This is the rear of the Roads Board building. Just look at that fine stonework. The background building is an arts and crafts centre. August 2011

Bindoon - The Outback Shed

Right behind the Roads Board building is The Outback Shed which is used for pottery and ceramics. August 2011

Bindoon - Museum

And still near the Roads Board - this museum is a little off to the rear and right. Inside are lots of mechanical goodies. August 2011

Bindoon - General Store

On the main street (Great Northern Highway), this is the busy General Store - tea, coffee, snacks, liquor, news, lotto .. what else? Wonderful shops are these. August 2011

Bindoon - House

A few metres south of the General Store is this really interesting looking house! August 2011

Bindoon - Butchers Shop

Again on the main street is this very functional-looking butcher's shop. Nice design, actually, August 2011

Bindoon - Hall

On the other side of the highway is the Bindoon Hall. Looking very 1930's/1940's in design which is not surprising as it was built in 1939! August 2011

Bindoon - Farm Machinery

You generally only see this sort of place in the bush and they are a sign of really being in the country. The local farm machinery dealership. August 2011

Bindoon - Shire of Chittering

Bindoon is the biggest town in the Shire of Chittering. This is the Shire office building on the main street. August 2011

Bindoon - Bakery

Doing a roaring trade from locals, passing motorists, and passing motor cyclists, is the Bindoon Bakehaus. Today this place seems to be THE focal point of town. August 2011

Bindoon - Catholic Church

A little to the north of the townsite is St Anne's Catholic Church. This building was consecrated by the Archbishop of Perth in 2004. The original church was built on this site in 1909. It was destroyed by a tornado in 1943. August 2011

Bindoon - Dorothea House

Dorothea House is located just behind St Anne's Church and is part of this Catholic complex. Great stonework as in the church. Is this the church rectory? August 2011

Bindoon - Hills

Standing at the back of St Anne's church, this is a gaze across the grave-yard, then the paddocks, off to the hills in the west. August 2011

Bindoon - Hotel

The most northerly part of Bindoon is this, the Scottalian Hotel - an unusual name. Today a few fellows on bikes are enjoying a visit but other than those you can see,  all seems quiet. August 2011

Bindoon - Hotel

Just to the right of the main pub is this building which looks like an  old accommodation block, seemingly not in use at present. August 2011
