Dalkeith

Situated next to Claremont and Nedlands, the Dalkeith "peninsular" protrudes into the Swan River. Contains some of the most expensive real estate in Australia

North to Claremont

East to Nedlands

Dalkeith - Shops

This is the major shopping/business area on Waratah Avenue. A grand mock-Tudor style complex that looks very imposing. This wing, housing a real estate agency, protrudes towards the road. January 2011

Dalkeith - Shops

A view of the main shopping building taken from next to the real estate agency wing. January 2011

Dalkeith - Shops

Another view of the shopping centre, this time from the western end. You can see the "real estate agency" wing in the distance. January 2011

Dalkeith - Shops

The post office and chemist's shop look really attractive, right at the west end of the shopping centre.  January 2011

Dalkeith - Garage

Rather swish looking and "unbranded" service station on Waratah Avenue. I took a photo here only 4 weeks ago and it had petrol pumps. Today they've gone! January 2011

Dalkeith - Village Cinema

This used to the Village Cinema on Waratah Avenue. When I say "used to be", it doesn't look much like a functioning cinema to me anymore even though the sign on the front says "Revue". January 2011

Dalkeith - Council Facilities

A little to the west of the Revue Cinema, on Waratah Avenue is the Dalkeith Hall and local Community Care Centre. January 2011

Dalkeith - Church

The Carmel of the Most Holy Trinity is on Adelma Road, and another fine looking church. The Foundation Stone was laid the His Grace Most Rev. R. Prendiville, Archbishop of Perth, on 15th October 1936. January 2011

Dalkeith - Park

This is Mason Gardens, on the corner of Adelma Road and Kathryn Crescent. The central lake has dried up (alas, like just about every other small local lake in Perth). In this picture is an amazing stand of giant bamboo fronted by that intriguing single chair. The chair is inscribed thus: "One Is For You Alone". Perhaps placed here for passers by to sit and peacefully reflect on life in the shadows of the bamboo. I did.  January 2011

Dalkeith - Church

St Lawrence's Church in Dalkeith. December 2010

Dalkeith - River

Off Jutland Parade there are a few of these cul-de-sacs running down towards the river mainly to provide road access to homes. "No through road - No river access". The bank down to the river is steep! Lovely leafy vista down the street with a glimpse of the river and Attadale on the far bank. December 2010

Dalkeith - River

Point Resolution is the southern tip of the Dalkeith peninsular. An agreeable park and recreation ground. This view looks over the river towards Mosman Park. December 2010

Dalkeith - River

A little bit further downstream on the river from Crawley (on a boat trip to Fremantle), we passed by these rather expensive river-front houses in Dalkeith.  October 2010
