East Fremantle

On the Swan River, East Fremantle is located directly to the east of the Fremantle traffic bridge

East Fremantle - Canning Highway

View up Canning Highway from the end of Angwin Street looking west along Canning Highway towards the Stirling Bridge and ultimately Fremantle City. June 2008

East Fremantle - Old Post Office

On Canning Highway in East Fremantle is this building - Manera Antiques. In the old days this was the East Fremantle Post Office. It's amazing how the antiques & craft people seem to have a monopoly on grabbing and converting old post offices and fire stations. June 2008

East Fremantle - Preston Point Road

This block of apartments (I think they used to be called flats) tower on the corner of Canning Highway & Angwin Street. Given what's happened with property prices etc over the last decade I wonder if they'd build this again here today if they had the chance? The block is called Harbour Lights. June 2008

East Fremantle - View to Rottnest

Climb up Angwin Street a little and this is a view through someone's front gate. You can see across the roofs to the Swan River and Stirling Bridge and over beyond that's the Indian Ocean complete with a car carrying ship coming or going to Japan or Korea or wherever they make cars now. June 2008

East Fremantle - Canning Highway

Canning Highway looking east. That fine brick building is on the corner of Hubble Street. August 210

East Fremantle - George Street

Very picturesque building on the now very trendy George Street. August 2010

East Fremantle - George Street

A fine restaurant on George Street. Traffic-wise it's very quiet in there as many access roads have been blocked off. August 2010

East Fremantle - George Street

Liquor Store on the corner of George and Sewell Streets. August 2010

East Fremantle - George Street

A view back down George Street on the sunny winder Sunday afternoon. August 2010

East Fremantle - George Street

These huge blocks of flats contrast somewhat with the rest of George Street. These were probably built in the 1960's when this part of town was not so fashionable. Great location for all who live here. August 2010

East Fremantle - Hubble Street

This is a private residence on Hubble Street and looks fabulous. The building has been a church and a Girl Guide's Hall in past years. August 2010

East Fremantle - Canning Highway

Not a very flattering view of the Tradewinds Hotel which sits between Hubble and Sewell Streets on Canning Highway. The hotel used to be called (Jack Sheedy's) Plympton Hotel. August 2010

East Fremantle - Stirling Bridge

Standing under the old Fremantle traffic bridge looking along the banks on the Swan River in East Fremantle. Over there in the distance is the much newer Stirling Bridge which these days extends Stirling Highway. September 2010

East Fremantle - Stirling Bridge

A pleasant view along the blue Swan River waters, looking past some people trying their luck at fishing, on east to the Stirling Bridge. September 2010

East Fremantle - Stirling Bridge

Passing along the Swan River through East Fremantle on our Captain Cook river cruise. We're heading west towards Fremantle and we're nearly up to the Stirling Bridge. The water is somewhat discoloured because of dredging in the port has stirred up all the river sediment. October 2010

East Fremantle - Fremantle Bridge

And further along the Swan River through East Fremantle we're coming up to the old Fremantle Traffic Bridge. Beyond this bridge is the Port of Fremantle. October 2010

East Fremantle - George Street Restaurant

Back on George Street again, this time up at the Duke Street end. This attractive restaurant is right there. That small brick section looking interesting. Pity about the wheelie bins spoiling the view - but fairly normal for Perth. December 2011

East Fremantle - Old Brush Factory

At the eastern end of George Street, on Duke Street is Lauder and Howard, Antique dealers. This building is the old brush factory built in 1901. The current owners (Lauder and Howard) were responsible for the fabulous restoration. December 2011

East Fremantle - Royal George Hotel

Just across the road from the old brush factory is the Royal George Hotel. The hotel was built in 1902 and has been a distinctive landmark in East Fremantle ever since. The building is currently used as an arts and community centre. December 2011

East Fremantle - Royal George Hotel

Another view of the Royal George, this time looking east along it's southern facade. December 2011
