Harvey

A growing town between Yarloop and Brunswick - dairying and fruit growing region - situated 140 kms south of Perth on the South Western Highway

North to Cookernup

South To Wokalup

Harvey - Highway

Driving south on the South Western Highway this is the approach to the town of Harvey. Just around the corner up there is a leafy "secret" dell where the highway crosses the Harvey River. December 2010

Harvey - Bridge

Just before entering town and off a few metres to the east is the Harvey Agricultural College. This bridge spans the Harvey River. Beyond the bridge are the college buildings. December 2010

Harvey - Roadhouse

This roadhouse is on the South Western Highway and was always a favourite journey break point to buy some sustenance to keep me going for the trip ahead. It was always good as I'm sure it still is. December 2010

Harvey - Main Street

This Sunday morning was surprisingly busy for such a small town. Perhaps it's not so small anymore? This is the main street, Uduc Road, and many cars are parked along here and around the corner on the road that passes the train station. December 2010

Harvey - Shire

There's a shire office in just about every large town and this is Harvey's.  December 2010

Harvey - Library

Good picture of Harvey's War Memorial Library. It looks like a good, solid, functional building. December 2010

Harvey - Shops

This strange looking building is on the road near the railway station (at right angles to Uduc Road). It looks rather intriguing with that weatherboard upper level. Down below it's an Indian clothes shop!  December 2010

Harvey - Inner Centre

The mere existence of this place is a sign that the town has grown and the population has diversified from mainly agricultural pursuits of days gone by. The is the Inner Centre, a place to practice yoga and, I suppose, complimentary activities.   December 2010

Harvey - Church

One of Harvey's churches. This church was dedicated and opened by the Rev. Dr Clune, Archbishop of Perth, on Sunday 20th November 1932. December 2010

Harvey - Hotel

Another grand country town hotel. This is the Harvey Hotel on the "other side of the tracks" from the main shopping area. Well, on the other side (eastern side) of the railway line! December 2010

Harvey - Harvey House

I wonder how old Harvey House is? Perhaps 1930's? The building looks really good and has probably had a chequered history. These days it houses the newsagency and a seafood shop.  December 2010

Harvey - CWA

Cute looking CWA building down near the train station. Most middle-sized country towns have a CWA building and they all seem to be built on the same lines.  December 2010

Harvey - Sports Ground

The Harvey Recreation Ground - the  Jim Rake entrance. Really good and central location and possibly home to Harvey-Brunswick football team? December 2010

Harvey - Sports Ground

Inside the Harvey Recreation Ground is this grandstand. It's called the Arthur Marshall Stand. From this perspective, it looks like one decent puff of wind would blow the roof off! December 2010

Harvey - Station

Most of the train stations have undergone a metamorphosis over the years on this line. Thankfully the old Harvey Station has been preserved, unlike some which have disappeared altogether. The boarding/alighting point for the Australind train is the small green-fenced area to the right of picture. December 2010

Harvey - Station

This is the "road" side of the old Harvey Station. It is now a museum. Closed this Sunday so we couldn't see inside. December 2010
