Herne Hill

A pleasant locality consisting of mainly vineyards and fruit growing, towards the northern end of the Swan Valley, straddling the Great Northern Highway

Herne Hill - Garage and Shops

 

On the Great Northern Highway, on the west side, is the Peak Service Station with adjacent coffee shop, real estate agency and post office. July 2011

 

 

Herne Hill - Catholic Church

 

St Michael's Catholic Church is on the Great Northern Highway. It was built in 1935. I couldn't find the foundation stone so I can't provide more information regarding its history. July 2011

 

 

Herne Hill - Old Hall

 

This old hall could probably tell a story or two. It sits right behind the church. I wonder what its history is and what its future will be? It doesn't look like it is in use right now. July 2011

 

 

Herne Hill - Sporting Club

 

In the main area of Herne Hill is the Swan Valley Sporting Club which was established in 1931. July 2011

 

 

Herne Hill - Sittella Winery

 

Located on Barrett Street, these fine building are part of the Sittella Winery. The winery has a fine restaurant and end today, in the middle of the week, many people are arrived for lunch. July 2011

 

 

Herne Hill - Sittella Winery

 

This photograph is of the fine gazebo that graces the lake adjacent to (and part of) the Sittella winery. The paddocks look lovely and green, there is a fine winter sun and the view to the hills is magnificent. July 2011

 

 

Herne Hill - Bridge over Swan River

 

A little to the south of the townsite of Herne Hill, and at the end of Barrett Street, is this foot and bicycle bridge which crosses the Swan River. A handy short-cut to Henley Brook! July 2011

 

 

Herne Hill - Kafarela's

 

Opposite the end of Barrett Street, on the Great Northern Highway is Kafarela's which sells an assortment of interesting goods at the sign attests. July 2011
