Lancelin - Shire Office Lancelin lies with the Shire of Gingin. This is the local shire office. I'd say that Lancelin is in fact bigger than Gingin by quite a margin and will continue to grow. January 2011 |

Lancelin - Shipwrecks Cafe Up until 2010, the sealed road from Perth ended at Lancelin. Similarly, the sealed road south from Geraldton ended at Cervantes (some 127 kms north of Lancelin). Since then, the roads have been joined creating a continuous Indian Ocean Drive, all the way from Geraldton to Perth. Shops like this Shipwrecks Cafe should benefit from the extra tourists & travellers passing through town - if they come down the access road from the highway. January 2011 |

Lancelin - Shops These colourful shops are on the main street. a little to the right of the Shipwrecks Cafe (above). By the way - nice seafood & chips at the cafe this day! January 2011 |

Lancelin - House Lancelin provides some rather innovative and unique house designs - perhaps the Shire of Gingin is not as rigorous with building approvals as some of its metropolitan cousins? This building looks like an emergency station complete with viewing deck and what could be a siren? January 2011 |

Lancelin - House Another example of an unusually designed building. Not much life around this one today. I'm assuming it is a residence or holiday accommodation. January 2011 |

Lancelin - Isabella's Cottage This very cute building is Isabella's Cottage. The owners look like they have spend a lot of time, money and loving energy to make it into an appealing and comfortable restaurant and gift-ware shop. January 2011 |

Lancelin - Hotel This Beach Front Bar & Bistro building is certainly closed. However, its replacement sits to the left and a bit further back from the road. The "new" pub didn't feel like having its picture taken today. I wonder if this building will be refurbished and re-opened or something? January 2011 |

Lancelin - Hotel This is the Lancelin Beach Hotel in the north-ish part of town. January 2011 |

Lancelin - Lobsters Fishing is big business in these towns along the coast. Indeed, it was fishing that established them in the first place. Fishing boats chase crayfish and this appears to be a processing/storage plant. A truck sits there waiting to take the next haul to Perth or Geraldton. January 2011 |

Lancelin - Search & Rescue On the beach-front is this very functional looking building. It's the local sea search and rescue facility. Very impressive with it's airport-tower like viewing deck and all the communications equipment on the roof. January 2011 |

Lancelin - Island Lancelin Island sits a few kilometres off the coast, a little north of the centre of town. This view is taken from the main jetty. A few people fishing here today and they've got a fairly decent catch. January 2011 |

Lancelin - Beach A view from the main Lancelin beach looking north. Pity about the mounds of seaweed. Lancelin Island can be seen up there on the horizon. January 2011 |

Lancelin - Fishing Boats Up and down the coast fishing boats lay at anchor awaiting their next foray into the deeps. These boats are bobbing up and down furiously and swinging about in the waves. January 2011 |

|
Lancelin - Wind Surfers Lancelin seems to be a very sporty town. Many wind-surfers and kite enthusiasts take advantage of the howling wind off the coast near the reef. Some were travelling at incredible speeds. The beaches were however deserted of swimmers today. January 2011 |

Lancelin - Sand Dunes Just to the east of town there is a huge ridge of blindingly-white sand dunes. These dunes are accessible by 4-wheel drive vehicle and are popular with ski-ers, tobogganists and off-road vehicle enthusiasts. Today is very windy - you can see the sand being whipped up by the wind. January 2011 |

Lancelin - Sand Dunes Sun glasses are an absolute must - and so is nose/mouth protection in this wind. This is adjacent to the dunes next to the 2-wheel drive vehicle car park. The landscape is strange and eerie - like what is must be like being on some alien world! January 2011 |
