Narrogin

One of the largest towns in the Great Southern region. Narrogin is an important commercial centre servicing the local community and nearby smaller rural towns. Narrogin is situated on the Great Southern Highway and is 192 kilometres from Perth

Narrogin - Roadside Welcome Sign

This innovative welcoming sign can be seen on many of the roads leading into Narrogin. November 2011

Narrogin - Federal Street

A part of leafy Federal Street looking very quiet early on a Sunday morning. November 2011

Narrogin - Duke of York Hotel

On the corner of Federal and Egerton Streets is the impressive Duke of York Hotel. November 2011

Narrogin - Shops

Still on Federal Street, this is one of the most dominant buildings. I wonder what its history is? Full of shops downstairs - perhaps upstairs used to be accommodation? November 2011

Narrogin - Hordern Hotel

The Hordern Hotel cuts a fine figure on Federal Street. November 2011

Narrogin - Town Hall

I couldn't decide which aspect of the Town Hall to show as they are all excellent. The building is on the corner of Federal and Fortune Streets. It opened in 1908, a mere 2 years after the Narrogin municipality was established. November 2011

Narrogin - Steptoe's

Still on Federal Street but closer to the railways is Steptoe's. This building perhaps was once connected with the railways as the Foundation Stone was laid on 28th March 1958 by Hon. H. C. Strickland MLA, Minister for Railways. November 2011

Narrogin - Train Station

Once upon a time Narrogin was a large and important rail town and depot. Rails crews lived and worked here. Trains such as the Albany Progress used to pass through. These days its certainly quieter. This is a view from the overhead pedestrian bridge taking in the western aspect of the station. November 2011

Narrogin - Train Station

This is the eastern aspect of the station. Over in the distance sit an old X-class diesel locomotive and a couple of old vans. November 2011

Narrogin - Solicitor's Office

What an impressive building! It's down by the railyards at the end of Fortune Street. Whatever the history, the building is now occupied by W. L. and K. J. Everett, Barristers, Solicitors and Narrogin Settlements. What a lovely building in which to work. November 2011

Narrogin - Chiropractic Clinic

There doesn't seem to be any outward sign as to the history of this buildings but these days the local chiropractors are looking after it well. November 2011

Narrogin - Anglican Church

The Anglican Church of the Resurrection was constructed in 1901. No Foundation Stone could be found on the building. November 2011

Narrogin - Church

I am not sure what denomination is Church is as there are no outward signs. The Foundation Stone was laid on 22nd May 1920 by Mrs A. Oliver. November 2011

Narrogin - Commonwealth Bank

Quite large for a rural bank, the Commonwealth Bank building sits alongside its banking neighbours on appropriately named Fortune Street. November 2011

Narrogin - Post Office

The Post Office on Fortune Street, just across the road from the Commonwealth Bank. November 2011

Narrogin - Shire Offices

Rather unusual shire offices. They generally tend to be 1960's creations but the Shire of Narrogin lives in this attractive older building on Federal Street. November 2011

Narrogin - Soldiers Memorial

The building on the left is the Soldiers Memorial Institute. Not sure whether the grey stone structure of the right forms part of that building. November 2011

Narrogin - Old Courthouse Museum

Up on Egerton Street the old Courthouse has been transformed into a museum. November 2011

Narrogin - CWA Hall

A good old CWA Hall - functional as they all seem to be and looking quite attractive. November 2011

Narrogin - Old Building

This cute old building is on Egerton Street and is occupied by Matrix Planning Solutions. November 2011
