Perth - Old Fire Station The old Fire Station on Murray Street seen past one of those fine Moreton Bay Fig trees that line this end of the street. This was Perth's first purpose-built fire station and was constructed in 1900. It operated as a fire station until 1979. Now it's a Museum and a Fire & Education Training Centre. November 2008 |

Perth - Government Printing Office On the corner of Murray and Pier Streets is this grand old lady - the Government Printing Office. Curtain University has taken over part or all of it to provide an inner-city campus. When functioning as the Government Printing Office, security access to this building was tighter than Fremantle Prison! August 2010 |

Perth - Government Printing Office A little bit further east on Murray Street. You can see the Curtain shingle. That building in the right of picture was the Government Stores Building. August 2010. |

Perth - Laneway I love some of these grubby back alleys with rubbish piled here and daubing all over the walls. Here's one just off Murray Street. Very elegant! September 2008 |

Perth - Forrest Place The Commonwealth Bank building is a commanding structure in Forrest Place - particularly those strong looked doors! It's no longer a bank - la peer inside (not this day) seems to reveal what looks like a clothing market. March 2010 |

Perth - Building on William Street
Three years on the above hole has turned into this building. It's right over the top of the underground station. In this photo you can see the Murray Street entrance of the train station. November 2010 |

Perth - Food Court Just to the east of the above photo is this brand new food-court, arcade, and up above office suites. To the right you can see a bit of what used to be the Commonwealth Bank. August 2011 |

Perth - Piccadilly Arcade Almost directly across the road from the "new building" above, is the Murray Street portal of Piccadilly Arcade. Piccadilly Arcade has survived much knocking down and redevelopment all around it. This and Plaza Arcade go back many decades. November 2010 |

Perth - Murray Street - Wentworth Hotel Right on the corner of Murray Street and William Street is the Wentworth Hotel, established in 1928. Today it continues to trade as such. For what seems like years this building has been obscured by construction work on William Street. August 2011 |

Perth - Queens Buildings Right across the other side of Murray Street, on the other corner of William Street, is the fine old Queens Building. August 2011 |

Perth - Moon & Sixpence Now we've moved along Murray Street and crossed over William Street. This is the Moon & Sixpence pub which is right next door to another pub (now under renovation so I couldn't photograph it and the name escapes me but in the old days it was the Wentworth Plaza Hotel - it still could be called that). November 2010 |

Perth - Electricity Sub-Station Further west up Murray Street we come across this fine old building. Built in 1914 as the "Electric Light Sub Station". Its purpose isn't clear today. November 2010 |
Perth - Telephone Exchange Almost across the road from the Electric Light Sub Station is this building. It's the original (or at least very early) Telephone Exchange. These days it's occupied by Fujitsu. November 2010 |

Perth - City Hotel This used to be called the City Hotel. It's now called the Belgian Beer Cafe Westende (which is apparently a chain of pubs across the country). The Perth version is on the corner of Murray and King Streets. November 2010 |

Perth - W.D. & H.O. Wills Building And here at the corner of Murray and Milligan Streets is the elegant looking W.D. & H.O. Wills building. Possibly a tobacco warehouse-cum-office in the old days? Holy smoke. Those apartments up on top are recent additions - the "MMV11" suggests they were added in 2007. November 2010 |
