South Perth

South across the Swan River from Perth City is the City of South Perth

North to Perth City

South to Canning Bridge

South Perth - The "Decoy"

Tied up at the Mends Street jetty is the Paddle Steamer "Decoy". Looks rather grand. I think this is used as a hire vessel for river parties and dining. January 2009

South Perth - City View

Speaks for itself .. a city view from South Perth, January 2009

South Perth - City View

And another a city view from South Perth, January 2009

South Perth - Foreshore

Looking along the South Perth foreshore from near the Mends Street jetty. This is looking towards Kings Park. You can see the Narrows Bridge and for those with extra good eye-sight, can you spot the train on the bridge? January 2009

South Perth - Under Narrows Bridge

Underneath the Narrows Bridge at the South Perth end. A good place to cool off and park the car out of the sun on a boiling hot day! 2007

South Perth - Freeway to North

A view from the Freeway overpass this time looking north. You can see the distinct circular apartment block on Malcolm Street at the west end of the city that has been there for many years. 2007

South Perth - Freeway to North

A view from a Freeway overpass near the end of Lyall Street. You can see the Old Swan Brewery and Kings Park across the water. 2007

South Perth - Freeway to South

Another view from the Freeway overpass this time looking south down the Freeway towards the South Street exit. 2007

South Perth - Apartments

High rise apartments have long been a feature of the South Perth skyline. Here is the "back" of some. They actually face onto Mill Point Road but they are there for the northerly city views. January 2009

South Perth - Mill

The old South Perth Mill is a bit hard to photograph from this side because I'm almost standing on the Freeway! Nevertheless, here it is. The original mill was built in 1833 but only lasted a year before it was burnt down in 1834. This version was built in 1835. It was also known as Shenton's Mill and has stood here ever since. 2007

South Perth - Windsor Hotel

Here is the Windsor Hotel. I can think of no better way of spending a hot Saturday afternoon (or any day actually) sipping icy ales for hours on end and watching the world go by. Ahhh! January 2009

South Perth - Cultural Centre

The May and Herbert Gibbs Art Gallery is on Mill Point Road just across from the Windsor Hotel. January 2009

South Perth - Arcade

We ventured up the arcade a bit then turned and looked back. See? Chocolate shop and women's underwear! Tres boutique! January 2009

South Perth - Old Mill

Here is the Old Mill again - this time at night. March 2011

South Perth - The "Decoy"

And another shot of the P.S. Decoy tied up at Mends Street Jetty late in the evening. March 2011

South Perth - Coode Street Corner

Fine shops of the corner of Angelo and Coode Streets. November 2011

South Perth - Post Office

The South Perth Post Office flanked by the Commonwealth Bank on Angelo Street. November 2011

South Perth - RSL

The old (but not that old) RSL Hall on Angelo Street looks like it is sharing with or given way to a real estate agency. November 2011

South Perth - Uniting Church

The sturdy Uniting Church on Angelo Street. The building has two Foundation Stones, one laid by Mr J.P. Walton J.P. on 5th September 1925, and the other on the same date by Mr A. Douglas. November 2011

South Perth - Wesley College

Magnificent brickwork and building design are eye-catching features of the Uniting Church Wesley College on the corner of Angelo and Coode Streets. November 2011

South Perth - Wesley College

Perhaps this section of the College, the J.F. Ward Wing, was constructed later than the original buildings. November 2011

South Perth - Wesley College

Another fine view of the front of the College. Wesley Boys College was opened on the 11th November 1922 by The Hon. Sir James Mitchell who was Premier of Western Australia at the time. The first intake of students occurred in 1923. November 2011

South Perth - Wesley College

A final view of the College - this time R.L. Blanckensee Physical Education Centre. November 2011
