Wundowie

Small town east Of Wooroloo and north of the Great Eastern Highway. Known as a mineral resources centre

West To Wooroloo

  East to Bakers Hill

Wundowie - One-Stop Shops

The one-stop shops in Wundowie. I've never been to this town before although it has such a familiarity. Perhaps from my mining town days as it certainly rings of then? The houses mostly set in circular roads, mostly devoid of large trees is perhaps like Carey Park (Bunbury). The facilities typically mining town, like Kambalda? I still can't put my finger on the feeling. February 2011

Wundowie - Old Garage

This old garage in Wundowie is a part its history. No fuel here now. I would guess most employment in town is at the local Iron & Steel Foundry. The Foundry was established in 1943 and many local houses were built in the 1940's. The Foundry has continued under various guises and management from 1943 to present day. February 2011

Wundowie - Chip Shop

Across town is the fish and chips & hot foods restaurant. Bet it's popular on weekend evenings. In the 3-4 towns I've been through today (Gidgegannup, Bakers Hill etc) this is disturbingly about the 3rd or 4th similar country business up for sale. February 2011

Wundowie - Hall

What I meant by looking like somewhere like Kambalda, the nickel town, perhaps struck me both here and the Club photo below. They are so at odds with buildings in all the other country towns in 100 km radius? February 2011

Wundowie - Club

This is the closest I came to seeing a proper Pub in town, although I could have missed it. This modern building in the Wundowie Club. February 2011

Wundowie - Day Care

Most buildings in town seem to be fibro or asbestos. This is the Fluffy Ducklings Day Care Centre. I'm sure they do a good job for all the littlies in town. February 2011

Wundowie - Anglican Church

The Anglican Church seems to be a local (building) enigma. It looks like it was built many years before the rest of the town - and perhaps it was? This is the Anglican Parish of Mundaring - St Simon and St Jude, Wundowie. February 2011

Wundowie - Warehouse

Now here is a place that caught my eye. A crisp white building - sporting the signs "Daily News" and "Four Square" - the owner obviously has a sense of history - the place seems to be a furniture store. Very picturesque. February 2011

Wundowie - For Sale

Last but not least. I over-heard a couple of people saying there is not a single place for sale in Wundowie. Well, this is, but hardly a house - a very small office, no bigger than a garage (which it probably was). February 2011
