Photographs of Perth, Western Australia Home | Locality A-Z | Notes Yarloop Old saw-milling and timber town situated between Waroona and Harvey 126 kms south of Perth on the South Western Highway |

Yarloop - Highway Entrance A couple of old boilers and accompanying signs stand like sentinels at the beginning of the Yarloop entrance road, at the South Western Highway. December 2010 |
Yarloop - Mill The old timber mill which can be seen from the highway. There used to be a kiln(?) here that resembled a Dalek out of Dr Who TV series. December 2010 |
Yarloop - Mill A little further down the access road is the Mill Office. The mill is owned by Gunns. Naturally no activity here on a Sunday but with almost no timber in the yard I wonder whether the weekdays are the same. December 2010 |

Yarloop - Post Office Great looking building, naturally built from timber as are most buildings in Yarloop. This building doubles as the Post Office and also for the office/entrance point for the Yarloop Steam Workshops (which are open from 10.00am to 4.00pm daily). December 2010 |
Yarloop - Workshops Built about 100 years ago, the workshops remain mostly unchanged. The sign says that these workshops are amongst the few remaining all-timber engineering workshops, world-wide and thus are of significant heritage value. December 2010 |
Yarloop - Restaurant Right next to the Post Office & Steam Workshops office is the Cabin Restaurant. A fine-looking timber building which compliments its neighbour. December 2010 |
Yarloop - Hotel The Yarloop hotel is just across the park and railway line from the workshops and restaurant. This seems to be one of the few hotels around which is actually younger than a lot of other buildings in town. December 2010 |
Yarloop - Shop A really cute looking shop in the west side of town. Bridgette and Me is the name. December 2010 |
Yarloop - Shop Still on the west side of town, this tiny old shop, not in use these days, would probably have an interesting story to tell. December 2010 |
Yarloop - Shop The main store in Yarloop - the only general type of store in fact. People were calling in this morning for milk and newspapers. December 2010 |
Yarloop - Cottage Dotted around the town are many wooden cottages such as this which were probably originally built as homes for timber workers and those employed in the workshops. December 2010 |
Yarloop - Hall The Yarloop Hall is a fine sturdy structure, as they usually are! The paint on the date on top of the building has worn off somewhat but close scrutiny suggests 1938. December 2010 |
Yarloop - Church This fine looking wooden church is St Josephs. It is in really good condition and obviously being looked after well. December 2010 |
Yarloop - Station We've mentioned train stations here and there quite a few times in our travels. This one looks like an old bus shelter. The passenger train only stops here on demand. December 2010 |
