Bullsbrook

A locality on the Great Northern Highway, north of Midland and 46 kms from Perth. Home to R.A.A.F. Base, Pearce. This is in the Upper Swan region. The town's name was coined in the late 1890's, taken from the nearby Bull's Brook. The Brook is thought to have been named after 1831 settler Lt. Henry Bull or his servant, Richard "Bull" Jones. In 1936 the town was gazetted as Kingsford but this changed in 1939 to avoid confusion with Kingsford NSW airfield

Bullsbrook - Road Train on Highway

The Great Northern Highway running through town carries an enormous number of road freighters, many of which are over-width and/or over-length, and most heading north to mining establishments. This morning they were endless - one after another. Most come back south with scant back-loads. July 2011. Photos Ref: BULL010

Bullsbrook - RAAF Pearce Airbase

The RAAF Pearce airbase was constructed pre-world war II and was officially granted station status in 1939. This is an 'old' entrance off Great Northern Highway, somewhat north of the current main entrance. The base was named after George Pearce who was a West Australian Federal Senator from 1901 to 1938. The base is home to air force training and combat groups. Public air shows are held at the base from time to time. July 2011. Photos Ref: BULL011

Bullsbrook - Old Fire Truck

Outside the fire station on Chittering Road is this old fire truck. It's an old Ford called 'Blitzbuggy'. This is an ex-RAAF water tanker which was purchased for fire-fighting at the Pearce airbase in 1962. July 2011. Photos Ref: BULL014

Bullsbrook - Moondyne Joe Mural

A mural on what is perhaps a pump house near the fire station. Moondyne Joe was one of Western Australia's best-known bush-rangers who "operated" in the Avon Valley area in the middle to late 1800's. His real name was Joseph Bolitho Johns. Joe obviously comes from Joseph, and Moondyne was the Aboriginal name for the Avon Valley. July 2011. Photos Ref: BULL015

Bullsbrook - Catholic Church

On Chittering Road is the Virgin of the Revelation Catholic Church. The Foundation plaque was dedicated by the Most Reverend William Foley, Archbishop of Perth, on 7th June, 1987. June 2014. Photos Ref: BULL016

Bullsbrook - Agricultural Hall

On Turner Road in West Bullsbrook is the old Agricultural Hall. This building was constructed in 1904 and has had a chequered history. It has been used by the RSL, by the CWA, once as a school, and also as a venue for church services. The hall has seen various extensions and changes over the years some of which are evident by examining the brickwork lines. The tin extension at the rear is extremely recent and contains kitchen facilities. Perhaps this is the oldest surviving building in Bullsbrook. June 2014. Photos Ref: BULL017

Bullsbrook - The Maze

Located on Neaves Road a little west from central Bullsbrook is this family amusement park called 'The Maze'. This is an excellent place to spend a family day. December 2009. Photos Ref: BULL018
