Cockburn Central

Cockburn Central is a recent suburb creation. It was formerly the northern part of Success. The creation and rename probably came about through an effort to align it to the then new nearby railway station on the Mandurah line. Even the suburb of Success is recent. It was only created in 1973. Before that time this whole area fell under the Jandakot banner. Jandakot was named after Lake Jandakot which has been known as Forrestdale Lake since 1973.

Cockburn Central - Apartments

Apartment blocks just to the west of the station. These are just some. There are many more. This place has a strange feeling and I can't put my finger on whether is it positive or negative. December 2017. Photos Ref: COCK002

Cockburn Central - The Last Drop

The Last Drop Tavern on the corner of Beeliar Drive and Hammond Road. This appears to be modelled on the mock-Tudor style tavern on Haynes Street, Kalamunda which used to be known as the Last Drop but now prefers the Best Drop moniker. The place is pretty big - lots more land available down here. December 2017. Photos Ref: COCK005

Cockburn Central - Old Jandakot School

The old Jandakot Primary School located on Poletti Road formerly known as Beenyup Road. The school was originally built in 1904 on Forrest Road but was moved here in 1926 due to excessive flooding in the old location. In 1936 the school was expanded but by 1980 some rooms and the teacher's living quarters were demolished. The school closed as such in 1992. December 2017. Photos Ref: COCK006

This little shelter is just behind the old school and would have been used by pupils as a lunch area on rainy days, amongst other things. December 2017. Photos Ref: COCK008
