Guilderton

An attractive holiday and fishing town approximately 94 kilometres north of Perth. This area has been a camping site since around 1905 but the town was not proclaimed as such until 1951. Mrs Henrietta Drake-Brockman selected the town name relating it to many thousand Dutch Guilders (coins) which were lost in the nearby wreck of the ship Gilt Dragon in 1656. The town is located on the mouth and estuary of the Moore River

Guilderton - Moore River

What a spectacular place is Guilderton, ideal for a day trip or an extended holiday away from the city. The main feature of this town is its proximity to the Moore River and, as you can see in this picture, how attractive it is. The sand-bar blocks the river flowing into the sea at present. Guilderton - Moore River Boats for Hire

Boats for hire on the Moore River. You can see in the distance the sandbar and the northern promontory which overlooks the river mouth. January 2011. Photos Ref: GLDN003

Guilderton - Moore River Mouth

Out on the river mouth sand-bar. To the right is the Indian Ocean and to the left is the Moore River. The river water is salty suggesting seepage under the sand from the ocean. Many little kids where splashing around in the river this day. A safe swimming place for them. January 2011. Photos Ref: GLDN004

Guilderton - Pelicans

On the north bank of the Moore River and next to the caravan park is this sculpture depicting a trio of pelicans. Many real pelicans make the river mouth their home. January 2011. Photos Ref: GLDN005

Guilderton - Lookout

This is the lookout tower from which I took the first and second photos in this series. It overlooks the river mouth. You can drive up there (there is a car park), or take the wooden steps from the beach area below. January 2011. Photos Ref: GLDN006

Guilderton - General Store

Just behind the caravan park, a little further away from the river, is the Guilderton General Store. January 2011. Photos Ref: GLDN008

Guilderton - House

There are some really fine homes around Guilderton. How about this one? A really interesting and imaginative design. January 2011. Photos Ref: GLDN009

Guilderton - Roadhouse

The roadhouse-cum-everything. This is the Moore River Roadhouse. The older bit in the centre of the picture is also the post office. To the right is the shop. January 2011. Photos Ref: GLDN010

Guilderton - Light House

A rather sad and solitary lighthouse keeps a watch over dark seas. This coastline has a long history of shipwrecks due to submerged rocks and reefs. January 2011. Photos Ref: GLDN011

Guilderton - Galahs on Wires

A large mob of pink and grey galahs perched on the power lines alongside the road that leads into town. April 2013. Photos Ref: GLDN012

Guilderton - Paddock

Guilderton - Rock Formations

Interesting rock formations looking rather like small 'pinnacles' also adjacent to the road into town. There is also a 'Men of Trees' plantation here. April 2013. Photos Ref: GLDN014
