Heirisson Island

An island located in the Swan River at the east end of Perth which is a nature reserve apart from the section of carriageway connecting the Causeway west and east bridges. Heirisson Island is not a suburb in its own right, it is located within and administered by the City of Perth. Originally consisting of two islands surrounding by mudflats, progressive reclamation resulted in a single island. The island is named after French sailor Francois Heirisson

Heirisson Island - Beach

On the western section of the island here is a small section of river beach close to the western Causeway Bridge. The sliver of land centre left, on the far bank of the river, is in South Perth. December 2012. Photos Ref: HEIR001

Heirisson Island - Kangaroo Gate

On western island section is a kangaroo reserve. Access to this area is via these gates which are designed to keep the kangaroos from escaping, and dogs from getting in. December 2012. Photos Ref: HEIR003
