Moodiarrup

A small farming centre set close the Arthur River and Lake Towerrinning, south of Duranillin and north-east of Dinninup, on the Boyup Brook - Arthur River Road. Originally called Mudiarrup, this was changed to the current spelling in 1957. Moodiarrup is 35 km south of Darkan and some 236 south-east of Perth. The locality was gazetted in 1909 although government surveyors were in the district as far back as the 1870's, as were the early settlers

Moodiarrup - Moody Red Back

On the junction of Boyup Brook Arthur Road and Darkan Road South is this Moody Red Back building which was once a shop. It looks like a private residence now. April 2012. Photos Ref: MOOD001

Moodiarrup - Sports Complex

A little to the west of the old shop is the Moodiarrup Sports Complex. This is the club house. To the right of the picture are tennis courts and bowling facilities. You can also play golf here. The complex was opened in 1982. April 2012. Photos Ref: MOOD002

Moodiarrup - Lake Towerrinning Sign

To the north of Moodiarrup is quite a large lake which looks a little out of place in the somewhat arid surrounds. Now I had trouble spelling the name, it looks like whoever made these two signs couldn't agree either. My Roads and Tracks of W.A. book has another variety - Towerinning. I'll go with the 2 R's and 2 N's version. April 2012. Photos Ref: MOOD003

Moodiarrup - Lake Towerrinning

The water looks fine, although perhaps a little low after summer. This is one of two jetties. Over across the water on the right is a camping ground - you can just see it. People are boating there today. April 2012. Photos Ref: MOOD004

Moodiarrup - Lake Towerrinning

Another view of the lake. Water is diverted from Cordering Creek to fill the lake. There was a major diversion project undertaken back in 1992. April 2012. Photos Ref: MOOD005

Moodiarrup - Lake Picnic Area

Next to the lake is this picnic area and facilities. Very quiet here today. April 2012. Photos Ref: MOOD006
