Shoalwater

Shoalwater is a residential, mostly beach-front suburb located south of Rockingham and approx 40 kilometres south of Perth. South of Shoalwater is Safety Bay and Warnbro. Shoalwater is located on Shoalwater Bay, a relatively shallow bay off the Indian Ocean, which contains a number of islands including Bird Island, Gull Rock, Seal Island, Shag Rock and Penguin Island. The bay extends from Point Peron in the north to Mersey Point in the south

Shoalwater - Penguin Island Centre

The middle section of Penguin Island. The jetty and a few buildings can be seen. Penguin Island is closed to public access during each winter, probably to give the wildlife a bit of a break. Island access commences mid-September. Ferries run each way about once an hour. Some hardy people actually walk across to the island on the sand bar but tides and water currents can make this hazardous. August 2010. Photos Ref: SWRB003

Shoalwater - Jetty

This is the jetty near Mersey Point from which the Penguin Island ferries leave - and we're on one now so this is looking back. You can glimpse the Wild Encounters building (to the left) and also a section of a block of rather nondescript apartments (with million dollar views) up behind. February 2012. Photos Ref: SWRB010
