Sorrento

Sorrento is a coastal suburb north of Marmion and south of Hillarys. The area was first surveyed in 1929. The name Sorrento is probably taken from a town of the same name located near Naples in Italy. Back to at least the late 1960's, the West Coast Drive was known as West Coast Highway and the northern terminus of the road was in Sorrento, around about where the garage and shops are near Raleigh Avenue. That was all before Marmion Avenue was extended and upgraded
