Woodlands

Woodlands is an attractive inner suburb bounded by Wembley Downs, Innaloo, Doubleview and Churchlands and is  about 7 kms from Perth. The centre-piece of Woodlands is Jackadder Lake, a popular picnic and model boating area. The suburb name was approved in 1961 and the name comes from the developer's promotional name of Woodlands Estate. In keeping with the "wood" theme of the suburb name, many of the local streets are named after trees

Woodlands - Jackadder Lake

Set in the heart of Woodlands is Jackadder Lake. The lake is one of a chain of wetlands which include Lake Gwelup, Herdsman Lake and Lake Monger. Here you can see a small bar stretching out into the lake. Off to the right is a bird sanctuary island. January 2013. Photos Ref: WDLD001

Woodlands - Jackadder Lake

Some of the model yachts round marker buoys on the lake. They might look small but these models are mostly around 2-metres high, from tip of mast to under the keel. January 2013. Photos Ref: WDLD003

Woodlands - Jackadder Lake

A full-sized boat rests on the lake shore. I think this belongs to the yachtsmen, probably for retrieving a stricken model vessel. January 2013. Photos Ref: WDLD004

Woodlands - Fresh Fruit

All this fruit looked so colourful in the Woodlands Shopping Centre. In years to come we might marvel at the prices but even by today's standard they are pretty competitive. January 2013. Photos Ref: WDLD006
